Ecological manufacturing, from the sheep’s wool all the way through to the handwoven rug

It is no coincidence that the first sustainably-made collection of rugs from Tisca is called “Respect”. For Tisca, taking a respectful approach to people and resources is second nature. GOTS certification was the logical step. This means that it is possible to ensure sustainable manufacturing for exacting and demanding customers.

    Strict criteria

The Global Organic Textile Standard is the world-leading standard for the processing of textiles from organically-produced natural fibres. It sets strict environmental and social criteria throughout the entire production chain – from the raw materials to the sales. The independent certification and labelling with the GOTS label also provides the end-consumer with certainty in terms of their purchase decision.

Natural plant dyes are used for the colouration only. Conventional and sustainable rugs also have to be made on a strictly separate basis. For this purpose, there are separate spinning frames and looms as well as separate storage areas. In addition to the energy- and resource-saving processing, social standards, such as workplace safety and fair pay also considered priorities.

    Handling the sheep with care

The use of wool from controlled organic animal husbandry is compulsory. Tisca goes one step further and uses wools which correspond to the Wool Integrity Brand Label from Bloch & Behrens. The criteria for this quality of wool are health, nutrition, responsible shearing as well as ensuring normal and calm social conditions for the animals.
